The programme “Working with downstream companies and slaughterhouses in the Cerrado to stimulate the implementation of conversion-free policies for beef” (The Cerrado Monitoring Protocol) facilitates a novel protocol for slaughterhouses to implement their customers’ (downstream companies) commitments in the Cerrado biome, Brazil. Despite downstream companies making pledges to conserve the Cerrado biome, there is currently a lack of alignment on how to operationalize this in the beef sector. While a protocol for slaughterhouses to analyse cattle purchases is in place for the Amazon biome, a similar tool does not exist in the Cerrado biome. Therefore, the programme will build on the protocol for the Amazon biome and will aim at publishing a monitoring protocol for the Cerrado that can be used by any interested company.
